Here, there, everywhere an F-Word!

ONA124 Local Coordinator Donna Oliver and a fellow member hold signs reading, “Fight” and Fed up!”

ONA124 members, including Local Coordinator Donna Oliver (left), hold their favourite f-words as part of an interactive activity initiated by the Local at the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions Biennial Convention in Niagara Falls this past June.

Everyone has an F-Word that resonates.

Just ask ONA124, who found an entertaining way to get their members and allies to share theirs.

“We were so excited about the new digital format ONA has chosen [to share stories], which was launched at the Provincial Leadership Meeting in April,” explains ONA124 Local Coordinator Donna Oliver.

“During our Nursing Week dinner, ONA124 decided that we would set up a photobooth. I made a “My F-Word is” sign [using the official logo], we had some premade bristol boards with popular words from the F-Word t-shirt, and some blank boards so that members could write their own f-words.”

She reports that members were very engaged in this team-building exercise. So much so, in fact, that it didn’t stop there.

It made for quite the conversation piece!

“We had so much fun with this, Region 3 decided to bring the sign and boards to the recent Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions Biennial Convention in Niagara Falls,” adds Oliver. “We engaged members from other provincial unions, the Board, staff and it made for quite the conversation piece!”

Much of that engagement was captured on film by ONA124, including a photo featuring ONA President Erin Ariss, CEO Andrea Kay, Canadian Labour Congress Executive Vice-President Siobhán Vipond, and Ontario Federation of Labour President Laura Walton sharing their f-words.
