Beyond Equity: The Courage to Care Podcast – Progress from a Black experience

“Canada is a multicultural environment. We understand our cultures, we understand how people from our culture relate to the health-care system. Being able to use that to help is so important. I hope that all nurses do recognize that and use that tool.”
Today we debut episode one of Beyond Equity: The Courage to Care, a new three-part podcast from ONA. This podcast is all about hearing stories from one another, through a perspective of anti-racism and anti-oppression. If you think about these issues, especially how they relate to your work, this podcast is for you.
In this episode we meet Janet, a Black nurse working in mental health care.
Janet tells stories from her 30-year career, including what it’s like to work in a mental health care setting, using her Jamaican culture to connect and work with patients, navigating racism and discrimination from colleagues and managers, and how she became an activist with her union.
We hope you enjoy this episode. Listen and share it with a friend. They may need these stories, too.
