ONA members at Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS), ONA7, are united and fighting back against RN cuts.
Working with ONA Member Mobilizers, the nurses organized a banner petition action to call on the BCHS CEO to reverse 21 RN cuts to five units.
On July 29, they rallied outside the hospital, talking to the public about their grave concerns for patient care and unsafe working conditions, before presenting the banner to senior management for the CEO.
Bargaining Unit President Cathy Cleverdon says the banner action unified members and showed them they do have power.
“Eighty-nine per cent of our members signed the banner,” she says. “We have made it very clear that cutting RNs from the CCU, MC, ED, Mental Health ED and PACU is dangerous for patients and for nurses.”
She adds that Region 4 Vice-President Grace Pierias energized and supported members as they fight the good fight for patient care and safe working conditions.
