Atrocious!

In my role as Local Coordinator/Bargaining Unit President, I’m not at the bedside, but I can still rant and rave for our members who are.
This is my rant related to nurse-patient ratios.
My CEO continues to boast about research, specific patient care, optimum patient care, etc., clearly missing the point that an organization can’t achieve optimum care with the ATROCIOUS nurse-to-patient ratios.
Great patient/family care begins at the front lines. A ratio of one-to-nine in acute medical is ATROCIOUS (my word of the day)! Increased skin injury, increased falls risk, increased isolation precaution breaches, increased behavioural issues. Patients aren’t just frustrated; nurses are too.
My CEO is bragging about all these things but has his head in the sand to the reality of the “business:” Patient care!
