Mixed messages

I was told there were better jobs in Ontario, but the nursing courses I want to take to make me more employable across sectors are refused, saying, “you’re already a nurse, you should be working.”

I’m told to drop my credentials because it makes people think I will be promoted over them.

I’m told to go back to school to certify as a personal supporter worker, but as an RN, I can already do that work.

There are three sites just five minutes away from my house that are “urgently hiring,” but my application is still pending.

I apply to non-nursing jobs only to be told “we can put your name on the schedule like you work here, but you won’t get any hours.”

I apply to customer service jobs only to be told that I’m “not trained and have no experience.”

HUH?

Doug Ford said, “nurses are an essential service, so come to Ontario and we’ll get you working.”

Then how come I’m an unemployed, educated and experienced RN?
