Primary concerns
Primary care needs to be not forgotten.
Those of us who work in medical clinics, doctors’ offices, diabetes clinics, etc. need pay equity.
In my practice, I prescribe medications, order labs and communicate these with my patients. I work at a high level of skill and education, and as the diabetes expert in my family health team.
Yet, my executive director continues to take services away from patients (i.e., moved the registered dietitian out of diabetes education totally and will not allow them to work with me). Tells me, “you’re lucky to still have your job.”
We’re going into negotiations and we know this will be a fight to get any pay increase or increased benefits, much like many of our primary care peers.
We need ONA to continue to work with us to gain support and public awareness.
