Rock-hard ice cube

Sometimes something happens and you just need to tell someone. But maybe there’s no one around or you feel shy or uncomfortable about sharing. It could be a positive thing to share, like a patient buying you a coffee, or it could be an annoying thing, like taking flak for something outside your control. Whatever it is, you can share it here. This is your place to let off steam.

Work is so exhausting at times that you have nothing left to give.

Bereavement leave needs to be updated to go with the times. I think it needs to include the loss of a pet as well as of a pregnancy. The regulations as to what constitutes “immediate family” also needs to be changed because there are numerous ways to create a family these days, and immediate family means different things to different people.

I don't understand why for firefighters, police and all male-dominated sectors, the wage is so much higher.

Workloads are the worst they have been. Patients are sicker, heavier and some unfortunately are more verbally and physically aggressive.

I just want time to concentrate on teaching staff.

We don’t have agency nurses and don’t want them. My employer will use them to decrease the number of RNs, and issues will never get resolved.

Nursing is constantly being expected to do more with less and for less

Nursing is constantly being expected to do more with less and for less. Nurses are constantly covering for not only the number of nurses the unit is short, but all other disciplines as well. Responsibilities of other disciplines get pushed onto nursing with no compensation.

They do not know what nurses do

Managers of nursing units are no longer RNs, but physio, respiratory therapists, pharmacy. I’m concerned they may eliminate nursing jobs at the front line. They do not know what nurses do.

I would love to move to part-time, but am unable to change because of benefits.

We were given a rock-hard ice cube to chip away at with a knife for patients with a fever

My unit went approximately three weeks with no ice/water machine. Neighbouring unit also didn’t have a working machine. Not one person from leadership thought hey, let’s bring in some water bottles for staff and patients. Instead, we were given a rock-hard ice cube to chip away at with a knife for patients with a fever.

I need a raise

I need a raise.

Parking should be free. Nobody should have to pay just to go to work, let alone essential health-care workers.

I shouldn't have to take vacation days for medical appointments

I shouldn’t have to take vacation days for medical appointments/procedures/treatments that will keep my chronic medical conditions under control.

It feels like management and nursing teams are more polarized than ever despite having gone through COVID together.

My employer gave us whistles for our safety, but no protection from narcissistic bullying by leaders.
