We’re screaming

Graphic that reads,

In my many years of working as an RN, I haven’t seen such abuse of power as with our current manager and director.

These are our experiences in the last few months on one unit.

The manager calls from home during the night, before day shift starts and on weekends. Constantly checking numbers and giving directions even though there’s a policy against this behaviour.

Instead of four moms and four babies, nurses are now assigned six moms and six babies. When these nurses claim overtime pay, they’re asked, “what happened?” Part-time nurses on modified duties assigned to complete the data entry for BORN Ontario were dismissed when this manager and director took over. They told the remaining nurses that along with the heavy patient load and working short-staffed that we’re expected to complete the BORN data entry.

I have a lot more examples, but I’ll summarize by saying we’ve lost close to 10 staff in under a year from this one unit.

The CEO, Vice-President, Professional Practice, HR director, ONA, MPP, College of Nurses of Ontario and Premier Doug Ford’s office were notified. There’s been no change; rather, it’s become more toxic.

What can we do when the powers that be refuse to hear us even though we’re screaming?!

Note: We encourage ONA members to raise workplace issues with your Bargaining Unit President. Find out who that is here.
