Misdirected
I had an inappropriate patient admission to my unit. I work on a rehabilitation floor, but the patient admitted was more suited for one of the mental health programs.
It was very challenging to manage this patient’s behaviour and provide patient care.
I was very annoyed, as the physician taking care of this patient wasn’t very receptive to the concerns I brought forward. I just told myself, “f*ck, I’ll keep approaching the physician until something is done to manage that.”
I also informed my manager, calling out our “unsafe workplace.”
I kept informing the physician of the patient’s behaviour and requested her to assess him ASAP. After she experienced the patient throwing things at her, she immediately put in new orders. That helped me take care of the patient better.
But it shouldn’t have got to that point.
