Stretched

Graphic that reads,

Management is proposing to reduce RN coverage on day shifts in a five-floor, 300-plus bed long-term care facility, while requiring RNs to rotate between shifts and floors.

We have five RNs on days, one per floor, and they want to reduce it to four.

Instead of consistent RN coverage where residents and staff know who is responsible for their care, we’re being asked to stretch fewer RNs across multiple floors and work rotating shifts. In a facility of this size and acuity, this creates significant concerns around continuity of care, communication, workload and resident safety.

How is reducing RN presence and increasing rotation supposed to improve care in a 300-plus resident facility?
